Conquering the APA/Conquering the MLA

Feeling confident is key to a successful learning experience. When undergraduate students write papers, they have enough to worry about researching the topic. Adding in the complexities of the APA or MLA format can push them over the edge.
The American Psychological Association's Publication Manual and the Modern Language Association's Handbook aren't designed for undergraduates, especially lower-division students. When students are overwhelmed and frustrated over the formatting, the content of their papers suffers.
"Knowing the impact on my grades, I found that the pressure of formatting my work properly was crippling. It turned each assignment into an arduous, time-consuming drama. I wish I'd had this workshop when I was an undergraduate."
- Cynthia Green
Sixth-grade teacher
Richard Haynes Elementary School
Conquering the APA and Conquering the MLA are four-hour workshops that address the main areas of APA 6th edition format and MLA 5th edition format. Topics include:
- What is a Style Guide?
- Formatting the Title Page
- Formatting the Body Pages
- Formatting the Page Header and Running Head
- Using the Five Levels of Headings
- Placing Figures and Tables
- Documenting Sources in the Text
- Creating a List of References (APA)/Works Cited (MLA)
- Creating a Template Document in MS Word
A small-group practice session on formatting references is also part of these workshops.
"I took this workshop when I was an undergraduate, and it made a huge difference in my grades. The information was easy to understand."
- Johannes Worsoe
